Former shipyards will house industries rather than offices

Mariusz Kowlas, the new president of Towarzystwo Finansowe Silesia owning the land previously occupied by the shipyard has presented four new concepts of how to develop those areas.

The concepts were first presented to the members of the parliament and the civil servants from the West Pomeranian region.

“This is our second attempt at drafting a development plan for the area” – said Mariusz Kowlas during an interview for Polish Szczecin Radio. “Earlier suggestions offered by the former management were not favourably received mainly because they did not sufficiently accommodate the economic matters. My proposal is different, as it advocates preserving the industrial nature of the location.”

Mariusz Kowlas explains that currently there are four concepts that elaborate upon different solutions. The first option concentrates on continuation and expansion of the current status, namely leasing the land to entities that conduct their businesses there. The second idea is to establish a company that will manage the area, but Mariusz Kowlas believes it might prove costly. The third option is to sell it to a strategic investor.

“Ideally, it should be a shipyard investor that will restore the shipbuilding activity, but if another type of business proves advantageous, we will also take it into consideration.” - stresses Mariusz Kowlas. “We have entered into two preliminary contracts with potential investors” - he adds.

Under the fourth scenario Towarzystwo Finansowe Silesia could become a co-investor of a technological project. “We are now verifying these four concepts in consultation with our business advisers. In future we would like to create a team composed of our advisers and the representatives of the local circles linked with shipbuilding” – he assures.
