The project was carried out from January to July 2015, but the inauguration of the new addition to the Pilkington IGP glass processing plant took place on September 26. As a result, the facility is now 4 thousand square meters larger (the total surface area covers 15 k sq. m), there are new technological lines and a machine park.

Pilikington’s objective was to increase the production capacity in the scope of highly specialized energy efficient glass systems for the needs of the architectural market.   After the new line becomes operational, triple insulating units up to 80 mm thick will be included in the Company’s offer. “These products are very innovative. They can be used in both family houses and commercial buildings, because they ensure high thermal insulation and give flexibility of performance, appearance, transparency. They also conform with heightened safety and noise control standards”, says Radosław Miklaszewski, director of the Szczecin Pilkington IGP branch.

“We have extended the Szczecin branch to meet the increasing demand for specialized functional glazing, such as fire-resistant glass, toughened glass, and primarily multi-layered insulating glass units that meet the EU requirements for increased energy efficiency in the building construction industry” – observes Krzysztof Granicki, the president of Pilkington IGP.

The plant’s output will be 40% larger. At present the company provides consumers with 800,000 square meters of glass each year. Glass form Szczecin is primarily used by large enterprises producing wooden windows in the Scandinavia – only several per cent of the products are sold in the local market.

The project is another successful undertaking to be added to the investment portfolio of the Szczecin branch.  In 2013 a new heat treating furnace was purchased and activated, which increased the Company’s toughened glass production. Pilkington IGP Sp. z o.o. is one of the largest Polish producers of double/ triple glazed units, tempered glass, painted and screen printed glass, anti-burglary glass and all types of modern glass facades. “At the beginning of the second quarter we are planning to install the fifth line that will be dedicated to making double and triple insulating glass units. It will increase the output and trigger the need to hire about 30 new employees – mainly machine operators. Together with the investment project we have just completed, this will allow us to double our production”, boasts Radosław Miklaszewski.

At present Pilkington IGP incorporates seven Polish subsidiaries, and the branch in Szczecin is the second largest plant in Poland within the Pilkington IGP structure. The enterprise has been operational since 2005. It employs 200 people and its annual turnover reaches PLN 100 million. Since 2006 Pilkington IGP has been a part of Japanese NSG Group with production plants in 30 countries.
