The Szczecin-based ship-owner has signed a long-term contract with a member of a well-known oil concern. It has also added an oil tanker to its fleet.
The tanker called Apatyth was placed into service on 28 September to collect and transport oil from oil rigs located 68 km from Hel and owned by Lotos Pertobaltic. Arkadiusz Wójcik, the chairman of Unibaltic, explains that Lotos has just begun drilling a new oil deposit on the bed of the Baltic sea.
“We selected the tanker referring to the expectations of our contractor and we hope that it will work with Lotos Petrobaltic as long as oil is extracted from that deposit. We have signed a long-term contract. In line with the company’s new development strategy , we intend to focus on offshore oil extracting ,” says Arkadiusz Wójcik.
Apatyth is eleven years old. It was produced in Croatia and has the load-bearing capacity of 24 thousand tons. It is an ice class vessel, so it will be able to navigate in the South Baltic area. Apatyth is the eleventh ship in Unibaltic’s fleet and the company’s third and largest purchase this year. “In terms of load-bearing capacity, Apatyth constitutes 50% of our entire fleet,” observes Arkadiusz Wójcik.
The majority of Unibaltic ships are chemical tankers that navigate in the Baltic and North Sea, and are used among others, to fulfil the contracts with Grupa Azoty. The Company also owns two bulk carriers which travel on the routes joining European ports.
Unibaltic has been in existence since 2003 and it is engaged in sea freight of bulk and liquid products. The company’s head office is located at ul. Tama Pomorzańska in Szczecin. A branch of Unibaltic was also established in Gdynia in 2005
