Start! Graphic design inspired by nature

Agata Malinowska used to design for friends and herself only. Six months ago she decided to have a go at making a living out of her passion and set up her own business.

The budding graphic designer named her studio Malinowe Cacko (Raspberry Wonder) which she arranged in an old house in Witkowo Pierwsze near Stargard. In the studio Agata Malinowska creates beautiful graphics inspired by nature and folklore.

Her images include a head of a wolf and a bear, owl in a hollow, birch trees and Russian babushka dolls. Her two latest designs showing a man and woman were made as a set. Her graphics are sold not only as posters to be put up on a wall. She also puts them on t-shirts, duvet covers and pillowcases, and paper bags using the offset printing technique. She learned the technique by herself. An offset printing machine was one of her first purchases with the EU aid she got from the job centre when she started her first business.

Before she started the firm in August last year, she had studied construction engineering at the West-Pomeranian Technical University in Szczecin. At some point I realised that the career I’d chosen wasn’t what would give me full satisfaction, reminisces Agata Malinowska.

The owner of Malinowe Cacko begins the day with checking her mail, placing orders for materials and preparing packages for shipment. Only then can she get down to designing. Sometimes in her creative work she gets support from her sister Anna Malinowska-Łukasiak whose carpenter’s shop Projekt Cacko (Gem Project) is located nearby.

Agata Malinowska sells her products online through her own www.malinowecacko.pl and other websites selling handmade creations such as Pakamera, Dawanda and Conceptshop. She tries not to miss any opportunities to display her work at craft trade fairs, not forgetting about the promotion of her firm in social media.

The graphic designer has already gathered a follower base and is constantly on the lookout for new customers. One of her ideas is to customise her design to address her customers’ requirements. While always retaining my own style, of course, assures the owner of Malinowe Cacko. She also plans on adding new products to her offer.

The designer admits that her earnings can vary considerably from month to month. Financially December was a good month,
then in January I had fewer orders and less sales, reveals Agata Malinowska. All the proceeds go into her firm’s development.

I’m still learning how to run my own business, looking for ways to expand my exposure and sales; I talk to new Internet shops, also abroad, says Agata Malinowska. Then she adds: I’d like to have enough orders to be able to afford to employ a helper on very good terms.
