Skycam - the company established by Irwin Przeperski - has been in existence for a month , but its portfolio already contains one important event – photos taken during Netto’s birthday gala. Irwin Przeperski is currently ironing out the last details of two other orders.
“People’s awareness concerning various uses of drones is increasing and so is the demand for drone-related services. The array of tasks that drones can successfully perform is diverse and ranges from event footage, through damage estimates for insurance companies, preparing orthophotomaps to searching for lost persons,” he indicates.
His adventure with drones began a year ago when he got involved in testing equipment for Dronowo.pl. Dronowo.pl is an online store selling drones and drone components run by his friend, Paweł Kałuża. Thanks to this cooperation Irwin Przeperski has become an experienced pilot – he has logged hundreds of flying hours while operating drones and made a number of promotional films for the store. He has also shot a wedding footage with a camera installed on a drone.
In April he obtained a pilot licence allowing him to operate commercial drones. “If you want to fly a drone, you need a certain degree of manual dexterity, a good sense of space and attention to detail,” says the owner of Skycam.
He launched his activity using the first business grant from the Labour Office (in the amount of PLN 17 thousand). He spent it on a drone, a stabilized camera and a computer for image editing. He uses Phantom 3 which, as he claims, is the best professional quality model in compact drones class.
Irwin Przeperski advertises his services on Dronowo.pl. A service involving one drone and 40 minutes of airtime costs nearly PLN 600. “During this time I can take hundreds of pictures with a 12MP camera and make a film in Ultra HD 4K quality.
Before taking up the order I need to explore the area, then I make plans about flight coordination. As a rule an assistant is needed - luckily, my girlfriend is always ready to help,” he adds.
For the time being, Irwin Przeperski intends to edit the filmed materials himself. “I hope that in future I will have so many orders that I will be forced to subcommission the editing,” he says. He is also planning to deliver drone maintenance services in future.
“Drones are all the rage now. In each Polish city there are several companies delivering drone-related services. However, not all of them have people with sufficient skills and talent to prepare good quality film footage. The market is in need of true professionals with the required skills and experience,” he says.
What – in his opinion – is the trickiest part of running your own business? “It is crucial to take care of all the formalities, prepare a work schedule and then reach the stage when you are no longer at a loss, you know exactly what to do,” he explains and then he adds: “When someone sets up a company like mine it is useful to secure some external financing. I personally would not make it without any financial assistance.” In this connection he, Paweł Kałuża and an investor have just initiated a joint project called FLY. They offer a wide range of services linked with drones, such as the possibility to pilot a drone with the help of an instructor, filming, photograps and orthophotomaps, innovative advertising campaigns, training and sale of equipment. They also intend to manufacture subassemblies for sports drones which are quickly becoming a new craze.
