Physical activity needs management like a business

Entrepreneurs who participated in a conference "Sport and health: a method to keep employees involved” with Robert Korzeniowski, the winner of four Olympic medals, as a guest speaker, have found the message true.

The conference, held on 13 April in Azoty Arena hall, was organized by LUX MED and Grupa Doradczo-Księgowa Poncyljusz i Radź acting in partnership with PKO Bank Polski. It gathered about 80 representatives of Szczecin businesses, to include firms which, as Sebastian Goschorski, one of its organizers, has pointed out, have already organized sport activities for their employees.

Mirosław Jaroszyński from LUX MED, another organizer, agrees that they wanted to attract representatives of firms operating in clusters and Special Economic Zones in Szczecin and in its proximity and provide a networking opportunity.

“On the one hand, we wanted to introduce outstanding sportsmen to Szczecin business people. This is why we invited Robert Korzeniowski, who cooperates with the LUX MED Group under the program Medicine for sports and for active people. On the other hand, we know that stress at work poses problems for many people. We thought the idea of combining business and sports was worth attention”, explained Sebastian Goschorski.

Mirosław Jaroszyński added: “Further, we wanted to point out the necessity to have certain tests made before we get actively involved in sports in order to avoid unnecessary harm.” Doctor Grzegorz Juszczyk, Director of Health Education Office at LUX MED, stressed the role of health and prevention during his lecture at the conference. He pointed out the role of these factors in ensuring high productivity of employees.

Robert Korzeniowski agreed with this view: “Fitness is the foundation of our internal balance and self-esteem. When we decide to become active, the crucial point is to have tests made and select a form of activity that is the best for us.”

How to achieve an activity balance and save time for sports? Robert Korzeniowski recommends developing an activity management model, similar to those applied in business management and – for managers – taking care for non-business activity of employees.

“Our productivity improves if we group our tasks in segments. Adding physical activity to our daily routine gives us control and thus we have time for everything we want to. When I started a business, I had a huge problem, since work occupied most of my time”, says the sportsman-businessman Korzeniowski.

In his opinion, sport achievements positively affect all aspects of our life, since they give us the feeling of power. This is why Korzeniowski, who spends an hour a day on sports, still participates in competitions and encourages other people to do the same. “You do not need a regular training, sometimes just marching instead of driving a car will do. An hour of exercise three times a week is the minimum good for everyone", he says.

During a conference, Program PKO Biegajmy Razem, a group running project activating employees, was presented by Małgorzata Wojtczak, Director of Regional Corporate Centre in PKO Bank Polski.

Szczecinbiznes.pl was the media sponsor of the conference.
