Business Pearls 2015: Laura Hołowacz and opening of Bilfinger Mars Offshore manufacturing plant
"Świat Biznesu" Magazine announced results of a business competition summing up the past year in West Pomerania at a gala in the Dana Hotel, Szczecin, on February 18th.

For the 12th time, the jury composed of representatives of business, research and media chose the winners and runners-up in the 2015 Business Event and 2015 Business Personality categories.
Event worth EUR 90 M
The winning event was the opening of the Bilfinger Mars Offshore plant manufacturing foundations for off-shore wind farms in Szczecin. BMO’s investment with an estimated value of EUR 90 M has brought serial manufacturing of large-sized steel structures to Szczecin. With an annual production capacity is 100 k tonnes of steel, BMO will ultimately create 500 new jobs.
The runners-up were: the firm Pigment from Szczecin and the West-Pomeranian Technical University in Szczecin commended for launching innovative construction materials containing nanoparticles capable of cleansing the environment; the firm Jurassic Salmon sp. z o.o. from Janowo, Karlice Municipality commended for launching Atlantic salmon farming with the use of geothermal energy; the firm Apis from Chodecz near Włocławek and the West-Pomeranian Technical University in Szczecin commended for revitalization of Skolwin paper mill; the manufacturer of chemical fertilisers Fosfan SA commended for expansion of the phosphate wharf in the Port on the Oder River in Szczecin.
Socially responsible business personality
The chief editor of “Świat Biznesu” Włodzimierz Abkowicz presented Laura Hołowacz, the president of the management board of CSL Internationale Spedition, with the Pearl of Polish Business in the 2015 Business Personality category. The jury awarded the company for its effective management and completion of the Stara Rzeźnia (Old Slaughterhouse) project in the Łasztownia district of Szczecin which combines business, cultural and social functions. The following people received commendations: Janusz Pribulka, chairman of the company Sagra Technology which has operated in Szczecin for almost 30 years for supporting IT development in the region; Sylwester Krzywiec, general director of the innovative firm mvb from Szczecin which started operating in Szczecin over 20 years ago for achievements in management and supporting development of sport, culture and education in the region; Zbigniew Turnau, chairman of the vineyard Winnica Turnau in Baniewice for creating a modern winery and promoting the West Pomerania Region; Lesław Siemaszko, chairman of the management board of the construction company Zakład Budowlany Siemaszko in Szczecin for 20+ years of presence in the development business and sponsoring sports and cultural events.
Inspiring start-ups and ecology
Again, the main prize awards ceremony included the Inspiring Start-Up commendation awards for young companies whose owners demonstrated inventiveness and determination. The awards are a shared imitative of the Polish Entrepreneurs Foundation and Szczecinbiznes.pl portal. The commendations were awarded by the Foundation’s president Barbara Bartkowiak to: Agnieszka Chmielewska - president of the firm DogadamyCie.pl; Magdalena Walczyńska – owner of the souvenir shop Szczeciński Town Shop; and Erwin Urbaniak – owner of the firm BSHaus. Soon the readers of Szczecinbiznes.pl will be able to find out how well they will fare in the businesses undertakings.
Furthermore, during the Gala the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Szczecin awarded an additional Eko2015 prize to the company Jurassic Salmon from Janowo, Karlice municipality, for opening an innovative ecological Atlantic salmon farm which uses water from geothermal springs.
The 12th Business Pearls Gala attracted about 200 representatives of business, politics, research and media who gathered at Szczecin’s newest hotel, the Dana.
The event was sponsored by the Polish Entrepreneurs Foundation with Grupa Azoty, Deloitte, Mojsiuk Mercedes-Benz and the Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management in Szczecin that took the roles of business partners.
The co-organisers were Piekarnia – Cukiernia Asprod, Baltica Wellness & Spa, Centrum Bene Sport, Binowo Park Golf Club, Bohema Restaurant, Dao studio, sweet factory Dobosz, flower shop Esy Floresy, event agency Event Factory, Opera na Zamku, Stanisław Gajda’s dental practice Pierwsza Prywatna Klinika Stomatologiczna in Szczecin, pearl producer Perpol and language school Presto.
The media partners of the contest were TVP Szczecin, Kurier Szczeciński and SzczecinBiznes.pl.
