Establishment of the cluster has been initiated by Stylepit Poland, Prime Cargo Poland and PDC Logistics. Stylepit, originally known as SmartGuy, is a leading fashion sales platform from Denmark, which is currently one of the largest companies of that kind in Europe. Since mid-2013, the Polish branch has been operating in the Industrial Park of Goleniów. Goleniów is also the location where the Danish Prime Cargo Poland, a company providing transport services and e-commerce customer service, operates. The third founder of the cluster is a new investor in the Szczecin Załom housing estate – PDC Logistics, which will carry on business under the brand of Pierce Holding AB (a shareholder of PDC). It is the largest Swedish online store with motorcycle accessories and clothing, which distributes its products in Poland through XLmoto.pl and 24mx.pl.
By joining forces, the said companies will derive numerous benefits, such as shared purchases of goods and services, sharing staff competencies or implementation of research and development projects.
For some time now, we have been supporting Scandinavian companies entering the local market by, for instance, granting them access to our specialists, human resources or working methods. We also cooperate in transport organization. Thus, establishment of the cluster was natural. Initially, we wanted to cooperate on partnership terms so as to optimize our operating expenses, says Jacek Frydrych, Managing Director, Stylepit Poland.
Staff recruitment is of key importance to the future cluster members.
We have seen growth of the e-commerce industry in the region. Staff recruitment is a major issue, though. That is one of the reasons why we decided to join forces, says Zbigniew Kempski, COO, Prime Cargo Poland.
Seasonality represents the greatest challenge for the e-commerce industry, and it means an increased demand for employees in high season. Having established the cluster, we are in a better position to negotiate good terms of cooperation with job agencies or recruit a group of highly qualified employees who would work for the cluster members, explains Jacek Frydrych.
The e-commerce cluster will take the form of an association. The registration process may last until the end of the year. Such a form of business will facilitate the receipt of funds for EU projects related, for instance, to employee training, admits Zbigniew Kempski.
German logistics operators, Rhenus Logistics and Fiege, operating in the Industrial Park of Goleniów, are interested in joining the cluster. Also the Danish My Trendy Phone (one of the major European online stores offering accessories to mobile phones and other devices, NWLP lessee) is a potential member of the cluster.
