Port Investments and DGS Poland receive Pearls of Polish Business Awards
The business magazine Świat Biznesu has presented the Pearls of Polish Business in the Business Event and Business Personality categories in the 11th round of the awards for 2014.

The winners and commendation recipients collected their awards and diplomas at the awards gala in Novotel Szczecin Centrum Hotel on February 12, 2015.
The Pearls of Polish Business in the 2014 Business Event Category went to the Management of Szczecin and Świnoujście Sea Ports for the completion of an ambitious development and investment programme in years 2007-2014 with a total value of almost PLN 600 million.
‘The port infrastructure has been improved and modernized which makes the Szczecinie and Świnoujściu ports more competitive. The investments completed and planned over the next decade (the value of investments to be carried in the posts by 2027 is over a billion zlotys) place the company in the position of investment leader in our region’, we read in the justification issued by the jury.
Recipients of commendations in the category:
North-West Logistic Park for dynamic development of a logistics complex and opening two out of the four logistics and manufacturing halls planned in Szczecin. The complex will be home to Polish (e.g. Żabka) and international companies (e.g. IQ Metal, KK Wind Solutions);
KK Wind Solutions Polska for dynamic business development and implementation of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies. KK Wind Solutions is a supplier of unique, innovative electrical solutions used in wind turbine control systems
The Regional Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management for launching the PROSUMENT programme promoting the use of sustainable energy;
Viva Natura Agricultural Farm from Kołbaskowo. The firm produces over 10,000 litres of ecological juice a day. The fruit and vegetables used in the production process are sourced from local and regional farmers and suppliers. The contracts signed with the firm helped many of them avoid perturbations as a result of the Russian embargo.
The main award in the 2014 Business Personality – the Pearl of Polish Business was presented by the chief editor of Świat Biznesu, Włodzimierz Abkowicz to Krzysztof Kowalski – CEO of DGS Poland from Mierzyn which provides over 1500 jobs. The jury awarded the Pearls of Polish Business for effective management of the company, especially for using innovative HR solutions and development of its organizational culture.
Recipients of commendations in the Business Personality category:
Stefan Jurczyk, Piotr Kapcio and Krystian Stypuła - founders and owners of Home.pl;
Janusz Żmurkiewicz, Mayor of Świnoujście for his great contribution to the development of the town and creating favourable conditions for business;
Rafał Zahorski, founder and chairman of the company Magemar Polska, marketing and investment representative of the Management Board of Szczecin and Świnoujście Sea Ports, head of the Board of Stakeholders of Szczecin Port, for his long-term contribution to the development of port business in Szczecin and West Pomerania;
Wanda Stypułkowska, CEO of MPS International in Koszalin, for her effective management of a modern manufacturer of cosmetics, packaging and cleaning products, e.g. Kolastyna cosmetic brand;
The Pearls of Polish Business awards gala was held in Novotel Szczecin Centrum on February 12th. Among 140 guests were entrepreneurs, members of local governments and members of the Polish Parliament. The awards ceremony ended with a concert of Marta Łągiewka who performed her ‘La, la, la, la’ set.
Inspirational Start-Up
During the gala, the Polish Entrepreneurs Foundation and Szczecinbiznes.pl portal awarded commendations in the “Inspirational Start-Up” category. Commendations were given to young start-up businesses showing well-thought-out business ideas and management’s persistence in following them. The commended entrepreneurs were:
Elżbieta Dochniak, owner of Dom Lift – a distributor of stair lifts for the disabled; Joanna Gradek, owner of Green Touch gardening centre; and Aleksandra Pronobis, owner of an online shop E-szop.
What is the Pearls of Polish Business competition?
This year, the Pearls of Polish Business were awarded for the 11th time. The competition has been organised by the business magazine Świat Biznesu and its Editor-in-Chief Włodzimierz Abkowicz. The readers of Świat Biznesu are among those who send their suggestions regarding the entrants in the competition. Candidates are judged in two categories, i.e. Business Event and Business Personality by an independent panel of judges comprised of publishers and scholars in the area of economics from Szczecin. Winners of the awards are determined by secret ballot. This year, the panel of judges was chaired by Professor Aneta Zelek from the West Pomeranian Business School.
The organiser of the Pearls of Polish Business awards gala was the publisher of business magazine Świat Biznesu.
