The construction of the new premises for IKEA Industry in the Goleniów Industrial Park began in September, along with the new phase of extension of the area of Prologis Park Szczecin by approx. 19 thousand square meters. Ultimately, the new floor will be combined with the warehouse space of 13 thousand square meters, which is now leased by IKEA Industry. The new space will replace two smaller warehouses located in Resko and near the Goleniów Industrial Park.

Upon completion of the investment project, IKEA will have access to 19 thousand square meters of space with the maximum capacity of 29 thousand cubic metres. It will be used mainly for storing finished products, that is furniture manufactured in the plants located in Goleniów and Stepnica. According to Ewa Cander-Karolewska, Communications Manager Poland IKEA Industry Communications, the monthly flow of goods through the warehouse will be approx. 25 thousand pallets.

The warehouse space consolidation decision has been made by IKEA Industry Branch in Goleniów in the recent months. “The primary objective of the change is to increase the share of direct supplies to stores from the current 45% to at least 60%. In such a supply system, goods are stored in logistics centres for a very short time and their shipment to stores is accelerated. Additionally, this will translate into lower-scale transport and, consequently, a reduction of our carbon footprint, which is particularly important in the context of the sustainable development policy adopted by IKEA," explains Ewa Cander-Karolewska.

From the warehouse located in the Goleniów Industrial Park, furniture is shipped to European, North American, Asia-Pacific and Russian markets. In West Pomerania, IKEA Industry also manufactures solid wood furniture. It has one plant in the centre of Goleniów and another in Stepnica, where a sawmill is located as well. Apart from that, the company has a plywood manufacturing plant in Resko and a sawmill in Chociwel. IKEA Industry has the total of approx. 2.6 thousand employees in the region.

IKEA Industry is the manufacturing division of IKEA, operating under the umbrella of the Inter IKEA Group. It manufactures solid wood and wood-based panel furniture for IKEA. The Swedish company has its plants in ten countries worldwide. With 16 plants in 13 locations and nearly 10 thousand employees, Poland accounts for about a half of the total output.
