TF Silesia, the owner of former shipyard area, is establishing Szczecin Industrial Park Company. It will manage the land and offer services to potential lessees from the ship industry.
The incorporation of the new business, wholly owned by TF Silesia, was announced on 24 January by Adam Siwek, CEO of Silesia, Grzegorz Huszcz, CEO of Szczecin Industrial Park, the former plenipotentiary of Silesia in charge of the shipyard, and a former CEO of Holding Stoczniowy, and Olgierd Geblewicz, Marshall of Zachodniopomorskie Province. The owners are waiting for the company’s entry in the National Court Register.
According to their plan, the shipyard land will be gradually contributed to the daughter company based on current needs and in view of possible tax benefits.
“So far we have invested approximately PLN 2.5 million. We have been developing the firm’s business plan, but this year we plan to invest again PLN 13 million, mostly in infrastructure", says Adam Siwek.
The new entity, apart from leasing of the land and assets (e.g. overhead cranes) to ship industry and similar companies, shall provide services to lessees, and thus it may generate profit. For this purpose, a steel processing center will be established and the old shipyard painting facility will be refurbished.
“We want to provide services that go beyond the core business of lessees, e.g. organizing shared facility for employees, garbage disposal, maintaining of roads, etc.", says Grzegorz Huszcz.
At present, forty companies operate in the former Szczecin shipyard, with nearly 1,600 permanent employees and about 200 seasonal workers.
According to Grzegorz Huszcz, his company will look for new entities interested in manufacturing operations in the post-shipyard area.
“Negotiations regarding the issue are quite advanced”, he says.
