The Sea of Music – let’s start with electro-tango

Tanghetto will play in Szczecin on 28 November at the Sea of Music festival

The Argentinian band is known as the most alluring representative of electro-tango and its music is considered to be a unique combination of simplicity and sophistication. The band has received the Gardel Award twice and has been nominated to the Latin Grammy Award on two occasions. It is a winner of Platinum and Gold record awards in Argentina for each of its studio albums! The band has played concerts in more than 150 cities of 25 countries in South and North America, Europe and the Middle East.

Tanghetto enjoys the status of a leading representative of Argentinian music. The band has performed for diverse audiences and shared the stage with such artists as Inti Illimani (World Latinoamericando Festival in Milan), Gilberto Gil and Carlinhos Brown (Contemporary Brazil Festival in Rio de Janeiro). It has been nominated to the Latin Grammy Awards in the same category as Yo-Yo-Ma, Sexteto Mayor (Medellín, 2011) and played for such vast audiences as the one at the River Thames Festival in London.

In 2013, Tanghetto is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its musical career. “It seems like yesterday that we began to experiment in the studio, creating music which seemed to be regarded as a heresy but in reality turned out to be a new and authentic sound”, says Masri. “Over the past ten years, we have had the opportunity to experience the most intense emotions: we have won the Gardel awards, competed with Yo-Yo-Ma at Grammy, performed at BBC or in the Chicago Symphony Hall, played for 500 couples dancing the tango in the Tate Gallery in London at one of the major festivals and shared the stage with such artists as Gilberto Gil or Carlinhos Brown in Rio”.

The musical language of Tanghetto is a fusion of sounds derived from diverse sources (the tango, Latino and electronic music). Bandoneon serves the role of a vocalist accompanied by numerous other acoustic instruments, along with an amazing variety of sounds produced by synthesizers and samplers. Both the name “TANGHETTO” (a combination of “tango” and “ghetto”) and the idea behind the first record entitled “Emigrante” are derived from the experience from Little Argentinas, that is to say Argentinian emigrant communities.

Tanghetto will give a concert in Szczecin on 28 November 2013 at 8 pm in the LuLu Club. Until 20 September, tickets may be bought at PLN 45 and at PLN 60 after that date.
