Ana Moura won the hearts of the audience with her strong, exciting voice. Most people did not understand the songs sung in Portuguese, but they loved the performance.  She sang several pieces, including a few in English, like “No Expectations” by Rolling Stones.  Her voice sounded different than the original version, but was equally attractive.

 

She was accompanied by three guitars, percussion and a keyboard. Several instrumental pieces were presented, too, with Custodio Castelo, an outstanding Portuguese guitarist, playing solo tunes. 

 

To those who first heard fado from Ana Moura, the concert has proven that the traditional Portuguese music is not necessarily sad, bringing joy and even encouraging dancing, as demonstrated by the song entitled “Desfado”, when Ana Moura made the audience sing along with her. 

 

She debuted in 2003 with the album entitled “Guarda-me a Vida na Maoî”. It had very favorable reviews and enjoyed good reception both in Portugal and abroad.  In 2005, taken with her voice, the Rolling Stones’ saxophonist Tim Ries invited Ana to work with him of the album called The Rolling Stones Project. Her friendship with the rock and roll giants resulted in further collaboration with Tim Ries who made his contribution to Ana’s next album. It came out in 2007, reached double platinum and became one of the most popular fado albums in history. Since then, the artist’s popularity has been growing. For a few years, she has been an international fado star.  By now, she has issued six very successful albums.
