Startup Weekend took place in Pomerania Technopark between 23 - 25 October. Several dozens of its participants devoted these three days to transforming their Internet-based business ideas into start-ups. They were assisted by experienced coaches and mentors.  During the finals six teams presented projects to investors and the jury.

The creators of Sport Trip Planner – a web-based service for kitesurfers, proved most persuasive.  Their idea was to facilitate the planning of trips to different places in the world where people can kitesurf.  There are 300 avid kitesurfers in Poland who may potentially become the users of Sport Trip Planner.

“At present no such online service is available. You need to browse hundreds of websites to find the right hotel and the plane tickets, and you never know whether the offer you have chosen has the best price.   Our platform is designed to collate all the required information. You can select your destination, flight and hotel there. The system also informs you about the aggregate costs,” indicates Eliza Eliasz, a sports instructor and co-author of Sport Trip Planner.

The designers decided to test their solution on kitesurfing, but in future the platform should include other sports too.

Sport Trip Planner was prepared by a team of eight enthusiasts, most of whom live in Szczecin. “You cannot help but notice that the project has been prepared by people with experience and true passion for the sport. They have developed their idea relying on the needs of the community that they themselves are members of,” observes Marcin Kaczmarek from Consileon, a Startup Weekend juror.

Foot Steps - an application for travel personalization which allows the user to plan the sightseeing route, taking into account his or her individual interests and needs received the prize awarded by Startup Weekend mentors.

The audience award went to the team that developed FindSuperHero.com project. FindSuperHero.com is a platform with the help of which freelancers can search for design, software and marketing specialists.

The finalists received prizes to support the development of their projects from the event partners, such as legal advice and incubation in Pomerania Technopark. “Startup Weekend offers an excellent opportunity for gaining useful business know-how and establishing new relations. It is also a chance to present your ideas to investors, such as Protos, iSeed or SpeedUp ,” says Agata Turek of Pomerania Technopark.

Startup Weekend is a well-proven, reliable international format supported by Google for Entrepreneurs, Techstars as well as the large global start-up community. So far, almost 120 thousand participants have taken part in Startup Weekends organized around the globe and over 13 thousand projects have been created.

This year’s edition of the event was organized by Netcamp Foundation and Pomerania Technopark. The West Pomeranian Business School acted as the main partner of the event , while the city of Szczecin, Consileon and Aviva were the sponsors.
