Russians to Manufacture Cars in Szczecin

In Szczecin Russian Intrall will manufacture delivery trucks, specifically their prototypes.

- It will be a construction plant where new car models will be designed and then marketed in small series of 2-3 thousand cars - says the Vice-Mayor of Szczecin Aleksander Buwelski.  - If they are a success, further mass production will take place in Russia.

Contacts and agreements with the Russian investor are controlled by the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, however, the Vice-Mayor says that the city was recommended to the Russians by a local businessman. Representatives of the investor visited Szczecin several times. They examined various areas, e.g. the premises of the former shipyard.

- The location has not been yet finally chosen - says Mr. Buwelski. - They surely found the shipyard areas very attractive, but we also discussed a greenfield project. As a city we leave the decision to the investor. We do realize that this is a great opportunity, especially that the Russians mentioned even several hundred jobs, primarily for specialists. The project has a lot of potential.

It is said that the letter of intent with Intrall was signed during the visit of Russian President Dmitrij Miedwiediew last year. The document will probably be officially signed this month. We will then know exact dates concerning the investment. It is possible that the car factory will be built in two years.

According to the Rzeczpospolita daily, the plant may hire from 500 to a thousand employees.
