The Council of Ministers decided to extend Słupsk SEZ on 7 January 2015. The extension is to support the use of special economic zones to develop new investments. Extending the Słupsk SEZ with new areas will positively impact the regional growth. Apart from jobs available in newly opened businesses, it will trigger employment in close proximity of the zone. Moreover, as proven by past experience, establishing and operating businesses in SEZ and around them has accelerated growth in a number of sectors.
Based on the average performance of the Słupsk zone measured at the end of 2013, the newly included area should generate approximately 1,816 new jobs and capital expenditure close to PLN 637 million. The newest changes have resulted in the SEZ area increase to nearly 900 hectares.
“Thanks to the decision made by the Council of Ministers, the West Pomeranian investment offer has increased by 63 hectares of the Special Economic Zone. Today investors can enter nearly 1.7 thousand hectares of the Zone. The EU funds used for their development in recent years have exceeded PLN 170 million. Bearing in mind tourist and cultural values of the region, we provide an extraordinary opportunity for investors", says Olgierd Geblewicz, Marshall of Zachodniopomorskie Province.
The formal extension of Słupsk SEZ is expected in the beginning of February. “The Ordinance of the Council of Ministers must be first published in the Journal of Laws, and certain time must pass for the decision to become legally valid”, explains Agata Jaroszewska from Pomorska Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego, the Zone manager.
Today, Słupsk Special Economic Zone covers 817 hectares of land for development located in cities and municipalities of Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie Province. Following the extension, the Zone will occupy 899 hectares.
