IT is still riding the wave

The number of IT companies being set up in Szczecin and West Pomerania is continuously on the rise and their turnovers are growing too. Shortages of professional staff seem to be the only problem – such a conclusion can be drawn based on 2015 year round-up prepared by the IT Cluster.

In 2015 twelve new companies were added to the cluster. What is more, the cluster simultaneously started cooperating with Nordic IT – an organization that helps its software developing members enter the Scandinavian market and sell services there. In addition, new services to support cluster members in obtaining funds for innovative implementations from investment funds or EU resources were also made available.

The crucial issue to be resolved these days is a shortage of employees. That is why last year the IT Cluster focused primarily on the activities aimed to increase the number of skilled professionals in the local market.

“We were actively cooperating with the regional universities and secondary technical schools specializing in IT to facilitate recruitment processes and – in the long term – to help tailor the IT education model in the region to the needs of employers. We also regularly participated in ventures to open up IT career paths through retraining and reorientation - e.g. in cooperation with the IT Faculty of the West Pomeranian University of Technology and the Local Employment Agency we organized post-graduate studies for those interested in IT,” explains Katarzyna Witkowska, the president of the IT Cluster.

On 28 January the representatives of the cluster members will summarize the past year during the gala held in Trafostacja Sztuki hall.   This event will serve as a great opportunity to show off the successes of West Pomeranian companies operating in the sector, such as the first position in Skrzydła Biznesu ranking obtained by Meelogic Consulting, the threefold  growth of Pixel Legend or 50% increase of BLStream’s revenues.
