”The difficult financial situation of Polsteam, which is the largest Polish ship-owner, lack of any signs of improvement on the global ship market and the indolence of the Polsteam group management caused that Mateusz Morawiecki, the deputy prime minister, in consultation with Marek Gróbarczyk, the Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Waters, have decided to introduce the receivership," states the spokesperson for the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Waters.

 

According to the information published on the Ministry's website, the establishment of the receivership is aimed to stabilize the situation of the largest Polish ship-owner, help it maintain the position of a state-owned enterprise and facilitate steps that will enable the company to weather the recession and protect thousands of its workers (circa 2.5 thousand people are employed on more than 60 ships operated by PŻM). The receivership has been introduced for a period of 12 months.

 

Paweł Brzezicki, the newly appointed receiver, filled the function of the general manager of Polsteam over the years 1998 - 2005. That period was exceptionally hard, as the company was under the threat of bankruptcy at the time.  Then, in 2006 - 2008, he was the president of the Industry Development Agency and an adviser to the Prime Minister on Maritime Economy. He is very committed to non-profit activities, among others, he established the Pro Publico Mare foundation. Recently he filled the function of the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Maritime Economy and Inland Waters.
