The new bridge serves pedestrian and vehicle traffic. The opening of the new crossing had been awaited by MSR Gryfia shipyard and Bilfinger Mars Offshore manufacturing plant. Both islands had been practically cut off from the mainland part of Szczecin and accessible only by ferry.

 

“We have completed all the technical and administrative acceptance procedures. All we have to do now is get the final project sign-off, because the investment was partly funded from the European Regional Development Fund” says Mr. Maciej Nowotny, chairman of the management board of Mars Most Brdowski, a company established especially to complete the project The Bridge Providing a Connection to the Gryfia Business Park Investment Area. The project aims to facilitate economic revival in the areas located west of the Oder River. “The ease of access will make this area more attractive for investors and there are good chances that it will be the location of a strong cluster focusing on shipyards and offshore wind farms. Many other cities offer inspiring examples of how new infrastructure paves the way for more investment projects“, says MS TFI chairman Piotr Słupski.

 

The three spans of the Brdowski Bridge are almost 200 m long. The bridge offers two lanes for vehicle traffic and a pavement for pedestrians. The investment included development of road infrastructure on the main land and islands (247.95 and 120.44 metres of new roads, respectively), 194 parking spaces and new utility ducts. The construction took just over one year with Skanska as the general contractor and Nowogard as the contractor for the connecting roads.
