First TPs sailed to England
Bilfinger Mars Offshore has loaded the first batch of indirect platforms for offshore wind farms, manufactured under the first contract with DONG Energy.
The client (global leader in offshore wind energy systems) ordered 91 transition pieces from Bilfinger Mars Offshore to install them on the Race Bank Wind Farm in the North Sea. The contract was signed in July 2015 and it is worth several dozen millions of Euros (the exact amount has not been disclosed).
TP manufacturing was launched in October last year, and the whole project will last until December 2016. This morning the company started loading TPs on a barge - four TPs have been loaded so far (each TP weighs 344 tons, is 22 meters high and 6.5 meters in diameter). TPs are placed vertically, then fastened with screws and special clasps. The whole undertaking lasted about eight hours.
TPs will leave Szczecin at midday on Saturday, June 25th - and, weather permitting, they will reach Great Yarmousth in the UK five to six days later (en route, four monopoles will be added to the barge in Nordenham).
A 120 meter-high overhead crane was necessary to do the loading – it lifted, carried and placed the TPs on the barge. Before that, TPs were transported to the port on special self-propelled modular transporters. 13 workers took part in the loading process, including one overhead crane operator, four riggers, one lifting supervisor and two stowage specialists who worked on the barge.
“We will load other TPs in the same manner, but hopefully, each subsequent loading will take less time – we will try to cut it down to six hours. We have three barges at our disposal,” says Bogna Bartkiewicz, Public Relations Specialist, Bilfinger Mars Offshore.
Generally, barges are to be loaded every five days, but the whole process will depend on weather conditions and the crane availability (the crane is used daily in TP production).
