Business Pearls 2016: Commissioning of the LNG Terminal and Jakub Borowczyk, Head of brightONE
13th anniversary of West Pomerania business awards. Let’s look at the winners and special mentions.
The competition is organised by the Świat Biznesu magazine with Włodzimierz Abkowicz as the editor-in-chief and the event is held under the auspices of the Polish Entrepreneurs Foundation. The winners and special mentions (for the previous year) are selected by the competition jury comprising Szczecin scientists, academics and economic journalists.
The jury is presided over by Professor Stefan Domek, Vice-President for development and organisation at the West Pomeranian University of Technology. The winners of the main awards in individual categories receive a statuette of a shirt cuff with a pearl cufflink.
2016 Business Event
The jury decided that the most important event of the year was the commissioning of the President Lech Kaczyński LNG terminal in Świnoujście. The award was handed to Artur Zawartko Vice-President of Gaz-System. In the award rationale we read that the investment project is crucial for the country’s energy security. The project comprises: a c. three-kilometre breakwater; a wharf with moorings to unload liquefied natural gas off ships with capacity ranging from 120 to even 217 thousand square meters; two 160-thousand-square-meter cryogenic tanks each; a regasification plant; a 85-kilometre gas pipeline to deliver 5 billion square meters of gas to the Polish gas transport grid a year which covers over 30 percent of the domestic demand for liquefied natural gas.
Special mentions in the 2016 Business event went to: Autocomp Management, author of advanced simulators for implementation of innovative land and sea technologies; The Freegroup from Kołbaskowo for the development of modern and innovative spherical structures Freedomes, including an analog research station; Wave Catamarans Shipyard for the launch of production of exclusive catamarans; and to Alleceny.pl for becoming the biggest Polish site comparing the prices of food and convenience goods.
2016 Business Personality
The award in this category went to Jakub Borowczyk, Managing Director at brightONE in Szczecin. BrightONE Poland operates in the ICT sector and offers comprehensive IT solutions to global clients. The company hires c. 600 engineers, out of which 300 work in Poland in two centres of excellence located in Szczecin and Wrocław.
Special mentions went to: Jan Stasiak, President of Fast Terminals and the head of the Szczecin Seaport Customers Board; Monika Kowalska, General Director of Vienna House Amber Baltic in Międzyzdroje; Jan Filipowiak, founder and Managing Director of Pixel Legend in Szczecin providing IT services; and Robertas Liudvinavicius, President of Sano in Koszalin which operates a chain of groceries with the total of 37 stores located mainly in Koszalin and the Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie and Warmińsko-Mazurskie provinces.
Inspiring Start-Up
The event was an occasion to announce two Inspiring Start-Up special mentions sponsored by the Polish Entrepreneurs Foundation and the Szczecinbiznes.pl website for young business persons to recognise their courage and determination in building a start-up which has a big potential for success and may inspire others dreaming of their own business.
The first certificated was handed to Katarzyna Palejko which in June opened MK Clinique, a rehabilitation, relaxation massage and SPA studio. It offers massages and electrotherapy, kinesiotherapy and reflexotherapy treatments. It provides services to companies whose stressed and tired managers and staff can get a massage at their workplace by MK Clinique masseurs.
The second special mention went to Paweł Lepert who initially looked at the production of spectacles at large European plants and today manufactures his own Paul Vadim Eyewear spectacle frames and distributes designer glasses to over 3000 optical shops in Poland and abroad. During the 2014 finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Jurek Owsiak’s characteristic red-framed glasses were manufactured by Mr Lepert.
Recital and Anniversary
The event was marked by a song recital by Marta Uszko, an actress at the Teatr Polski in Szczecin. During the cocktail party Małgorzata Fieducik, Director of Novotel Szczecin Centrum, and Włodzimierz Abkowicz, editor-in-chief of Świat Biznesu cut a special anniversary cake to celebrate the 10th Business Pearls Award Ceremony held at Novotel Szczecin Centrum.
