BPO or SSC: the best for your first job

Modern shared services centres are getting stronger: They employ over 170,000 people in Poland, including 4,000 in West Pomerania. They are a good place to take your first professional steps”, says Katarzyna Opiekulska of LSJ HR Group.

BPO stands for Business Process Outsourcing, and SSC for Shared Service Centre. Firms from these industries provide support of business processes to large corporates. BPO usually take orders from third parties, while SSC are usually serving companies from their own capital group. What do they do? They support mostly accounting and finance processes, serve clients all over the world, provide logistic and IT services.

According to Sławomir Majman, President of the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency, who has spoken about the future of outsourcing in Poland during a recent press conference, the modern business service sector has been among the largest Polish employers. Moreover, its development rate reaches 15 percent per year, which is an outstanding result.

According to Majman, recently the SSC profile has changed significantly. From simple call centres they have evolved into centres offering advanced service processes. A growing number of them become IT centres.

The sector’s rapid growth can be observed in West Pomeranian Province too. Several BPO and SSC centres employ over 4,000 people, mainly young, well-educated and speaking foreign languages. This is a very good place to start your professional career. BPO and SSC ensure your professional growth investing in internal and external courses, offer broad social programmes and modern fully equipped offices. Employment is stable, and if you are good enough, your professional growth is guaranteed. Juniors, i.e. people who take their first professional steps, may be offered gross remuneration ranging from PLN 2,500 to PLN 3,500. When they gather experience, the gross pay may rise even to PLN 5,000. Of course, managers and team leaders are paid more.

Working in international teams, since such centres employ a large number of foreigners, is an important aspect attracting young people. Advantages are huge: developing language skills and multi-cultural environment are equally important like gathering purely professional experience. BPO and SSC employees are flexible and make good team workers. These characteristics are great advantages on today’s labour market.

Who can find a job in business service centres? Speaking foreign languages is the key. Fluency in one is a must, in a few is an asset. Usually they look for university graduates, no experience on similar positions is required. Team work skills and being open to others are additional advantages.

LSJ has recruited candidates to work at BPO and SSC. The current offers include positions of a junior accountant, accountant, administration specialists speaking English, German or French, IT support and client service positions. Since the sector has been growing fast, LSJ has commenced a cycle of courses and workshops for candidates interested in working in BPO or SSC. They are held in LSJ office and are free of charge. The nearest meetings will take place on 17th and 27th of April.

On 23rd April (Saturday) we will carry out a training for people already active on the employment market, who want to accelerate their professional career. Its participants will learn what to do to be noticed by prospective employers, will be informed about the current trends and benefits of networking. If you are interested in participating, please register sending an-email to: experts@lsj.pl.
