A European manufacturer of furniture will make investments in Szczecinek

A  Danish company called Tvilum will start the wave of investments by making a EUR 6.5 million outlay on a new plant.  The company is planning to hire 80 employees as from July.

The project above is the outcome of negotiations held between Tvilum and Szczecin Furniture Cluster operating at Kronospan. The investor has already signed a contract to lease a production floor at ul. Waryńskiego in Szczecinek (covering the total area of 40 thousand square meters). The technological lines transferred from a Tvilum production facility in Denmark will be installed there over the next few months.

The project started in the wake of the increasing demand for self-assembly furniture, which is Tvilum’s flagship product. “Launching our business in Szczecinek is bound to bring us closer to European customers who buy over 60% of our products,” says Andrew Long, the CEO of Tvilum.

“In addition, Kronospan (our most important raw material supplier) is located in the vicinity of our future Polish facility. These two factors will contribute to reduction of logistic costs, which is crucial from our viewpoint, because giving our company a competitive edge is among our primary objectives,” adds Andrew Long.

“At the same time, we will be able to offer products with the Polish FSC certificate – a distinction valued by our clients which also gives us a competitive advantage,” he concludes.

Kronospan has been supplying the company with particle boards for years.  ”That is why we are heading for the future hand in hand - we want to witness faster development in the furniture industry as soon as possible,” says Tomasz Jańczak, a member of Kronospan's management board.

Tvilum is already planning to develop its business in Szczecinek further – the Danish company has booked one more section of the hall which in future will house new technological lines and add 60 – 80 jobs to the pool.

Tvilum is counted among the largest European manufacturers of self-assembly furniture. Its products are sold, among others, in Ikea, Jysk or Walmart, and they are manufactured in three facilities located in Denmark. The Company is based in a little village called Faarvang; its distribution centre and largest manufacturing facility are also located there. In 2013 Tvilum was taken over by Revolution Capital Group from the U.S.

Szczecin Furniture Cluster incorporates the manufacturers of forms, blanks and furniture components. At present over 150 thousand cubic meters of components are produced by the cluster every year and in all likelihood, this quantity will soon increase twofold.  Kronospan plant in Szczecinek guarantees supplies of boards to manufacture 1.8 million of cubic meters of furniture per annum.

Kronospan has invested approx. PLN 60 million in the project so far. Apart from the manufacturing and warehousing space, it has built a car park with the capacity of over 300 parking spaces, and it has extended the required railway infrastructure. “We are now in the process of erecting a training and exhibition centre that will include a factory floor and exhibition facilities. The companies operating within the region will be able to exhibit their products there,” says Beata Rafało, the press spokesperson for Kronospan Szczecinek. Moreover, Kronospan offers technical and know-how support to entities within the cluster.

Kronospan Polska Sp. z o.o., with its headquarters in Szczecinek, was established in 1997.   It is the largest manufacturer of particle boards in the world.
