10 Years of Unity Line Services between Świnoujście and Trelleborg

Over the 10 years the Szczecin shipowner’s three vessels carried a million trucks, over 200 thousand passengers and 95 thousand passenger cars.

The first Unity Line ferry crossing between Świnoujście and Trelleborg took place on 5 February 2007. This year is an anniversary of the three ferries: Gryf, Galileusz and Wolin sailing to the port in southern Sweden.

Before, the entire Unity Line fleet sailed only to Ystad. Why then another shipping line? “Business customers have become more interested in the new route. Big Swedish companies such as IKEA, Volvo and Scania have entered the Polish market which brought about increased crossings of the Baltic Sea. As the majority of trucks drove to the North East they used the motorway running right next to Trelleborg. The proximity of Malmö and Copenhagen and the entire Denmark linked by the Øresund Bridge also mattered,” says Katarzyna Antoń, Marketing Manager at Unity Line.

The Świnoujście − Trelleborg routes is used not only by Polish drivers, but also those from Southern Europe: Austrian, Czech and Slovakian. This way Unity Line has become a serious competitor for the operators sailing from Sassnitz, Rostock and Travemünde.

To celebrate this anniversary, the operator invited to M/F Gryf representatives of Trelleborg’s port authorities, technical staff, counterparties and the management of Euroafrica Shipping Lines, which is a business partner of Unity Line. A symbolic present from the Swedes was a striking helm.
